Have you heard the rumour that gossip isn’t really bad ?
Nowadays, lots of false rumours move on the net,
which
can have a negative impact. That’s why five universities (Sheffield,
Warwick, King’s College London, Sarre in Germany and Modul in Austria)
have created
a lie detector to check social networks. The purpose of this project is
to automatically verify information and sort them into different
categories
such as field-speculations, controversy, misinformation or
disinformation -
each with specific characteristics. For example, about healthcare
rumour. Many doctors
say their clients look at their symptoms on the net, but it's not
always
true. It’s why the system will check the origin of
the information : certified site, article of journalist, newspaper
article, forum … then compare the source found with real
information.
